Authentic Craftsmanship & Vegetable-Tanned Leather

From natural vegtan to a lifelong companion. A look behind the scenes at Lederlotta.

Why I Choose Vegetable-Tanned Leather

  • Genuine Natural Leather: I exclusively use hides from pasture-raised cattle. At Lederlotta, it is not just about vegetable tanning, but about a respectful life for the animals outdoors.

  • Purely Vegetable-Tanned: Tradition meets nature. The leather is gently tanned for months using tree bark tannins. Chrome-free and eco-friendly.

  • Unique with Character: Small scars and marks tell the story of a happy animal life. These natural features make your handcrafted piece a truly unmistakable one-of-a-kind item.

A Material That Writes History With You

The untreated leather will be a witness of your journey. Through sun and usage, it develops a beautiful, honey-colored patina and becomes softer over time.

This transformation is not a flaw, but nature’s seal and a sign of the highest quality.

It all starts with a digital line. I design every one of my products from scratch on the computer. I construct the patterns with millimeter precision to guarantee perfect proportions and fit.

Once the digital construction is finalized it will become the template for the leather.

the art

I design and sketch every illustration digitally first. Then, the leather is moistened and the motif is transferred. Using a swivel knife, it is then carved into the leather by hand.

No machines, no lasers – pure handwork. With modeling tools, I sculpt the relief, giving the design its unmistakable depth and texture. White details are painted by hand.

In the video, you can see the creation of a handbag with tooled ginkgo leaves.

I love minimalist pattern designs that are simply made, yet durable and practical. When I place stitches on a product, I do not use sewing machines but the traditional saddle stitch. Stitch by stitch, with two needles and waxed thread. Should a thread ever break, the seam still holds – a promise of quality that no machine can give.

Only the Best Materials

Vegetable-tanned leather is of extremely high quality, and it was very important to me to keep my products plastic-free. Therefore, I also rely on these additional materials:

Elastic bands

Natural rubber & organic cotton from Austria.

Leather Finish

Homemade from beeswax, almond oil & cocoa butter.

Paint

Casein paint based on milk protein (toxin-free).

Wool Felt

  • Organic virgin wool from Germany.

THE JOURNEY TO YOU

As soon as the last stitch is set and the surface is polished, your unique piece isn’t just packed – it is prepared for its grand debut. Carefully protected and lovingly packaged, it makes its way to you. Because unboxing should bring you just as much joy as the product itself.

I am so  happy you are here, and perhaps I may send you one of my packages sometime!

Yours, Anna
